Dr Attawar is the Chief Surgeon Thoracic Organ Transplantation at Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai and Program Director & Chair of Thoracic Organ Transplantation at KIMS Heart & Lung Transplant Institute. With over two decades of experience, he has pioneered heart and lung transplantation programs across India, including at Gleneagles Global Hospitals in Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. His team has performed 630 thoracic organ transplants, including 448 double lung transplants, 125 heart transplants, and 57 combined heart-lung transplants, alongside 50+ LVAD implants. Notably, his team completed 29 double lung transplants for end-stage COVID-damaged lungs, one of the largest such series globally. Dr. Attawar is a global leader in his field, contributing to consensus guidelines for lung transplantation and advancing mechanically assisted circulation as a scientific advisor for India’s first indigenous MAGLEV LVAD, Hridayantra.
