Introduction:

Dr. A. B. Mehta has rich experience of more than 45 years in the field of Cardiology.  By this time, he has performed, supervised more than 20,000 Angioplasties and 100,000 Angiographies. 

His special interests are : Complex Angioplasty, Rotablation, Laser Atherectomy, Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) & Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). 

He has received the prestigious Padmashree Award from the President of India in 2004. He has received Life Time Achievement Award from many organisations apart from many other awards. Above all, he has received the Jaslok Ratna Award (2020); so far not given to anybody else in the history of Jaslok Hospital.

He has enjoyed the position of President of World Congress of Coronary Heart Disease (1981 & 1986) and the position of President of Cardiological Society of India (1998). 

He has done pioneering work and was responsible for placing First Drug Eluting Stent (DES) in the country in May 2002. He was one of the first ones to start Primary Angioplasty in Myocardial Infarction (PAMI) and also published first systematic trial comparing Angioplasty with thrombolysis in Acute myocardial infarction from Sion Hospital.

  • Maharashtra Gaurav Award for the most outstanding contribution in Cardiology, by the Govt. of Maharashtra (2004). 
  • Distinguished Doctor Award presented by the Indian Medical Association, Mumbai Branch on the occasion of “Doctor’s Day”, 1st July 2008.
  • Mahavir Mahatma Award for Oneness and towards social upliftment (Times Foundation, 2006).
  • The CTO – Man of The Year Award (2008), the First of its type, for the Indian Chapter of 2nd Indo European Course on Revascularization (IECR/IEIC), presented at New Delhi on 20th December 2008.
  • Life Time Achievement Award, International Integration Medical Council & Chemtech Foundation in 1999
  • Andreas Gruentzig Memorial Award for dedication and contribution for the growth of Angioplasty in India.
  • Most outstanding Young Person of the Year Award by Jaycee’s in 1978 (Shared with Amitabh Bachhan).
  • Appreciation Award by Association of Medical  Consultants, Mumbai presented on Alkem Doctors’ Award Nite on 26th June 2011 at Mumbai. 
  • Golden Contribution Award received at AICT 2012 at New Delhi, on 6th Oct. 2012.
  •  Life Time Achievement Award at the 1st IJCTO meet, at Mumbai on 8th June 2013.
  • Felicitation Award for outstanding contribution in the field of Cardiology at MGM Hospital, Navi Mumbai on 26th July 2017.
  • Life Time Achievement Award at the 19th Annual Conference of Pediatric CSI at U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre, Ahmedabad on 15/09/2018.
  • Life Time Achievement Award at the CSI conference 2018 at BKC, Mumbai on 22nd Nov. 2018.
  • Life Time Achievement Award by the Asia Pacific Vascular Intervention Couse society at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi on 28th June 2019 for his outstanding contribution to the field of Interventional Cardiology.
  • Received the prestigious “Dronacharya of Interventional Cardiology” award by Continuous Medical Education Award & Summit 2019, New Delhi By the Union Ministry, IHW-CNN18, & Omnicuris & State Medical Council Presidents on 8th August 2019 at Hotel Hyatt Regency, New Delhi.
  • Received Excellence in Cardiology Award at the The Times Healthcare Leaders Award 2021 on 25th February 2021.
  • Excellence in Cardiology Award, vishesh puraskar from Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Smriti Pratishthan for exemplary contribution to the field of Cardiology on 24th November 2021.
