About the Functional Neurosurgical Program
  • Functional Neurosurgical Program was established in 1988
  • The only comprehensive Functional Neurosurgical Program in India.
  • The first and only multidisciplinary program having movement disorder specialist, pediatric neurologist, epileptologist, stroke expert and headache specialist. Further support provided by state of the art Neuroradiology and Neurophysiology facilities.
  • Postsurgical care offered by dedicated nursing staff, rehabilitation specialist and physiotherapists.
  • Conducting research in the field of glioma and PD surgery. Completed five research projects and two research projects are underway.
  • It is the only centre that offers fellowship program in Stereotactic and Functional neurosurgery for qualified neurosurgeons. The fellowship program has a waiting period of more than three years.

  • Trained in Functional Neurosurgery from reputed centers such as the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, the Maudsley Hospital, London, Yale University, USA, Newcastle General Hospital, UK, as well as centers in France (with Prof. Benabid), Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Germany
  • First neurosurgeon to perform DBS surgery in India. Started DBS therapy in 1998 long before it was introduced in the USA (2002)
